Table for Two?
Chemo Two:
March 9, 2017
Friend drove me to hospital, and I told her to go on but to pick up later. Blood work. Saw doctor and told her about headaches. She said she’d schedule me for infusion of additional fluids and she wanted to do an MRI. That freaked me out a bit. But that’s happening next Thurs. I was happy that they could do something for headaches. I’m sure this additional treatment will cost us. Found out Dr.Patel took the same hike I did on Saturday. She said “that was more strenuous than I expected.” Tell me about it.
She scheduled me to get infused with fluids two days next week (1.5 hr sessions). She said that maybe would stop my headaches. She also scheduled me for a brain MRI since pet scan didn’t look at that area. Just to be safe. Oy! This having cancer takes up a lot of my time!
I left Dr. Patel’s office and went down to chemo infusion room. Crowded room but I find a seat. I listen to the banter as they hook up my drugs. Nurse says to guy coming in, “table for two sir? I’m sorry we’re busy. Would you like the seat at the bar?” Later, patient playing along, asked for a gin and tonic when nurse asked if he wanted a drink. Nurse deadpan said, “I’m sorry sir but happy hour was from 6:30-7:30. You just missed it.”
Glad they can still keep a sense of humor. By the way, the red toxic drug turns your pee red so that’s a little scary. Also because the red drug is so toxic, they give you a popsicle to eat while they pump it into you—for some reason. I have to find out why. Maybe to lower your body temp.
Two hours after the infusion, Nancy picked me up, we went out to eat fried oysters before food starting tasting bad.
March 10, 2017 I am pumped full of steroids and fluid so I run around doing lots of errands, walk my ten thousand steps, and even shop. I went by wig shop with my prescription for my wig and another quirky wig lady told me to come visit her on Monday to get my wig adjusted because as she said, “You have a small head.” I think these wigs aren’t bad though and
By evening, at 8:15, I am collapsed on the bed with big circle under my eyes and flushed cheeks.
